We visited the extensive ruins of Mystras a World Heritage listed site near Sparta. It was an old Byzantine fortress town with the ruins of churches, libraries, strongholds.

Quite a hike to the top!

The monastery and church built into the rock was well preserved and completely overrun with very happy cats and a donkey who was being well looked after by a nun.

The view of the valley and Sparta below was impressive.
